Etched Mother of Pearl and sterling silver
Etched Mother of Pearl and sterling silver
This one of a kind necklace features Mother of pearl with Rainbow Flashes throughout. The Shell Is hand-etched with re-imagined southeastern Tattoo line work and darkened with a black lacquer for contrast, set in a hammer set Sterling Silver setting. The arches around the design represent the mounds of the southeast and also the crescent moon. finished with a soft brushed silver finish. Beautiful in any light.
These new pieces speak about Southeastern Tattoo revitalization. As a jeweler and artist this is my acknowledgment of our traditions using re-imagined design work and meanings, made for today.
Taking back practices that are ours and recognizing the journey it takes to put all the pieces together. Our ancestors fought and survived for us to be here. The stories/ design work/ meaning behind many of our markings may be lost, but we have it in our DNA to create our own meaning. This is our way to take back our power. Wear this as a reminder to be strong and remember your ancestors are always with you and proud of who you are.
